Synecdoche New York meets The Truman Show meets small town American life.
Middletown is a deeply moving and funny play exploring the universe of a small American town. As a friendship develops between long-time resident John Dodge and new arrival Mary Swanson, the lives of the inhabitants of Middletown intersect in strange and poignant ways in a journey that takes them from the local library to outer space and points between.
Maisie worked closely with sound designer Johnny Edwards to construct an intimate and hyper naturalistic sound world with live microphones. This often descended into chaos, absurdity and surrealism and lay the foundation for a meta-style concept on the production based off the works of Charlie Kaufman.
